Carol Blazejowski Memories Memories of Carol Blazejowski

Carol was on the CHS Varsity Basketball team in 1974 when that team went something like 19-1. She averaged over 40 points a game it seemed like. Went onto Montclair State University were she continued her basketball career. Graduated their in 1978. On March 6, 1977 Carol "The Blaze" Blazejowski scored 52 points as a member of Montclair State University basketball team against Queens College at Madison Square Garden, NYC. That is still a record for a college basketball player.

In 1979 she went onto to become a member of the first United States Women's Basketball team that won a gold medal in Mexico City.
In 1980, the Blaze was selected to the 1980 Olympic team but unfortunately the U.S. government boycotted those games.
The Blaze also played in the WBL(Women's Basketball League)in 1979 for the New Jersey Gems and was the league top scorer as well as the league's Most Valuable Player(MVP).
Carol did go on to work for the National Basketball Assoc.(NBA)as an executive.

Then in 1997, the Blaze was named Vice-President and General Manager of the WNBA's New York Liberty.
Carol is the greatest female basketball player of my generation and I have always admired her hoop skills. Carol was a pioneer in women's basketball back in the 1970's when most games were attended by maybe 300 to 500 people. When the "Blaze" showed up to play in Madison Square Garden back in 1977, Carol and her MSU teammates played in front of over 12,000 people. Unheard of at the time especially for a women's basketball game.

In 1994, she was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. And in 1999, Carol was inducted into the inaugural class of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

Carol "Blaze" Blazejowski is the "greatest female basketball" player of my generation. I'm proud to say that I not only went to high school with her, but I also had the priveledge of watching the pioneer of women's basketball from the beginning to the end of her playing career.

Thanks for the memories Blaze. CHS Class of 1974.
